What is Mindset?

June 14, 2011 By Craig Hiscox 1 Comment

What is MindsetReally is there such a word or is mindset just another one of those make up words that the western world just has to have? Many people talk about it, debate it, argue over it’s importance and use it as an excuse for failure and success. The question stands, What Is Mindset?

The quick answer is, the formation of a habit, good ,bad or indifferent. Mindset predetermines a response to the situation the individual or group finds themselves in.  Mindset can be an attitude or a interpretation of events. It can be calming or violent.

Is Mindset the Answer?

Asking different demographic groups: What is mindset? and you will receive answers such as:

  • Philosophy of life.
  • Group think tank.
  • Absolute trust.
  • Attitude, disposition or mood.
  • Intention.
  • Foresight.

We need to break this down, understand the meaning as if a child was asked, what is mindset?. Firstly let the word become two:

  1. Mind —- The part of a person responsible for thought, feelings and intention. Recollection or remembrance.
  2. Set ——  To place into a specified condition. To put into order in readiness for use.
  3. What is Mindset? —- How you think and respond in a time and place.

The Power of Knowing, What is Mindset?

Mindset is powerful. It has won sporting events, conquered Everest and allowed individuals the joy of creating wealth. Once you understand the gift that has been presented to you, grasp it with both hands, don’t let go, hold on for the ride as mindset is a roller-coaster of emotion. Mindset will present you with opportunities that you have dreamed about, situations that you have wished to be in, a peace you never thought possible.

The Collective Mindset.

Collective or group mindset has given countries the power to rule over others. Certain individuals have used this power to improve their position for the so called greater good. By manipulating the human mind as a sense ” great minds think alike”. With this in our thoughts we need to stay aware of the damage that collective mindset can cause. It is a human trait to know the difference between good and evil, when you think of it, it is only a choice but are we making our own choice or does this choice stem from a seed placed in the mind at an earlier time of our life?

The Mindset Journey.

No matter what you believe, your mindset will change many times during your life. External influences will have an effect. Want’s, needs and social groups all point you in their direction of strength. What is important is that you set your mind in a positive thought pattern and take advantage of the power of knowing, what is mindset.

Enjoy the journey your mindset leads you on, as you have know become richer with this knowledge. If you do not like your current mindset, change it, if you have problems changing it, change the way you think.

Why a Home Based Business

May 13, 2011 By Craig Hiscox 8 Comments

Juggling Home and Work
Multitasking

Taking on a Small Business can be a daunting exercise. Operating a Home Based Business can have a big impact on family life. As a method for creating wealth, your actions will govern your success in one of the most popular small business start up scenarios.

There are many business owners who have started successful home based businesses. Working from home allows the opportunity to work on your business more then in your business. Some other reasons for starting a business from home are;

  1. The home based business reduces the financial risks of starting out in business.
  2. Only require small premises or office.
  3. Running a business from home particularly appeals to parents of young children.
  4. Some run a business to provide a second family income.
  5. The availability of affordable mobile technologies is another factor influencing people to work from home.

Family comes First

Whether or not family are involved directly in the business, working from home impacts their lives. Recognize that your family needs space and privacy and consider how a home based business will affect their comfort level.

Discuss the location of business activities, the times of operation (start and finish) and where client meetings will be held. Some of the best methods in assisting  your families acceptance of the home based business are:

  • Have a uniform, even if it is just a shirt with a logo.
  • Go out the front door of your home, walk around the block and return directly to your home based business dedicated workspace.
  • Have fixed lunch breaks, allowing your family to join you if they wish.
  • Make it clear that during your working hours you are not to be interrupted by casual visitors.

Starting a home based business will cause lifestyle changes for family and friends, talk it through with them and agree on a system that works for everyone.

If family members will be involved in the business, formalize this relationship. Think through the implications on relationships of running a business from home  .

Benefits of a Home based Business

Running a business from home has its benefits:

  • Lower overheads – the home based option offers lower establishment costs, namely there is no commercial lease.
  • Lower risk – working from home eliminates much risk in the early stages of the business.
  • In some cases, working from home can be treated as the incubation period of the business.
  • Flexibility – home business owners set their own hours, can work broken shifts and be flexible to customers needs.
  • Convenience – all the conveniences of home and work are at hand.

Challenges of a Home Based Business

Like everything in creating wealth, what you get out of it is in line with what you put into it. Some of the challenges are;

  • Isolation – on both a personal and professional level. Interaction that exists in other working environments cannot be matched at home and is hard to adapt to. Those from corporate backgrounds, in particular, face a significant adjustment.
  • Distractions – at any workplace there are distractions but consider all the additional ones that may apply at home. Things like household chores, children, relatives, pets, visitors and the television are obvious examples.
  • Site limitations – the ideal is to design the site and facilities to suit the business requirement. But this is not always possible for businesses operating from home. The need to comply with local government regulations like parking, advertising, employment and manufacturing can be limiting.
  • Loss of guaranteed income flow – being able to retain the profits is a definite advantage of running a business, the downside is that it can often take time to build up a profitable business and cash flow can be erratic at start up. Work out whether the business will generate sufficient earnings. If not, consider retaining existing employment during the development of the business.

The Journey

May 1, 2011 By Craig Hiscox 4 Comments

Your Journey Begins with a Single Step

For most of us taking that first step is the hardest thing to do. As I sat here twiddling my thumbs over what to write in this blog post I realize that by just writing something is better then writing nothing.

Earmuffs may help The Journey
Go ahead bark all day.

Now I,m on a roll or am I? The Journey has just come upon a road block. All I can hear is the dog next door that has been barking all morning. how am I supposed to concentrate with that external noise.

Come on, get over it, move on, take action.

That is it, did you miss it? The most important line of text you will ever read. I will break it down. Concentrate, ignore the noise, here it is again.

  • Come on.
  • Get over it.
  • Move on.
  • Take action.

When you decide to take the journey to creating wealth you will find yourself acting as a magnet to all external noise. This is the perfect time to bring out the big gun line I just mentioned. Lets go over the condensed broken down version.

Come On.

Noise, it is defining not deafening. The journey is about moving forward and defining who you are, who you want to be, how you want to live. So come on take a hold of your life, ignore the noise. We are in charge of our own destiny. Remember that this is a single step to the big picture.

Get Over It.

We all have them, road blocks that is. Take a look at the journey of the people who you consider to already hold the wealth, the success, the life you dream of having. All of these people, it does not matter who it is, have had the measure to take the next step and step over the road block. OK you have to lift your foot a bit higher but when you hit terra firma again you realize that the road block was not that high after all.

Move On.

This is the fun bit of the journey. Educate yourself. Fun, how can this be fun? It is fun because it is the path you have chosen, the path that interests you, the path to creating wealth. Stop for a minute and think about this. Who do you know that ever just walked into wealth, enjoyed it and held onto it without knowing a little about how to grow and control it?

Follow the leader, educate yourself. Choose to be informed as the benefits far outweigh the pain. Ask questions, enjoy the ride. Lift your other foot and place it down into the pool of knowledge that is available. Move on.

Take Action.

In the movies we hear “lights, camera, action”. What would happen if the the actor did not react. Nothing happened, money, time, skills would all be disappearing into the void of space. There would be no completed scene, no entertainment value, no wealth creation. The Journey would stop.

Complete this step and your life will change. Take action. You have the knowledge to start, you know the road block is not that high, you have shut out the noise.

Take the journey, it is a ride worth experiencing.

Creating Wealth with a Single Step

April 25, 2011 By Craig Hiscox 2 Comments

Have a Reason for Creating Wealth

It does not matter if you are ten years old with a lemonade stand or 45 with the responsibilities of an entrepreneur, creating wealth has been on our minds for a long time. We have been taunted by it, challenged by it, confused by it. But we have never given up on it. Wealth is in our blood, a passion we hold tight to our chest. Then one day the penny drops and we realize that by sharing the knowledge of creating wealth we can improve our own position tenfold.

Not all wealth is measured by money.

So wealth is many things;

  • Wealth is a gift, a gift like no other.
  • Wealth is an investment in yourself .
  • Knowledge.
  • Feel the power that wealth conceals.
  • It may shape your destiny.
  • Enjoy the idea of wealth.
  • Learn, that what is in your hands is a direct result of what is in your head.
  • Pay it forward to your children, if nothing else you owe then the knowledge of creating wealth.

The Million Dollar Question

For some of us, letting go of this knowledge can be painful. Do we really want others to have what we have? Will the reciprocates of our knowledge use it for good or evil? Or the million dollar question: Will they use the knowledge at all?

Make a Decision Today

Creating wealth can be as easy or hard as you want it to be. Sometimes it can happen quickly, other times it may take a lifetime. To some wealth is not monetized, it is personnel. You, only you, can decide what your destiny will hold, how wealth will effect your life, your family, you. Everyday we make the personal decision of whether we will be rich , middle class or poor.   Your future is decided upon by your choice. make the right choice for you and your wildest dreams may come true. Who are you today?

Knowledge is Power

A lot of us take things for granted. You know the thoughts you have when your down on your luck (poor) the world owes you a favor, you feel inadequate. Your afraid of losing, so what happens, you lose.

Then there is the majority of the worlds population (middle class) that think it is just to much work and place creating wealth in the too hard basket, so what happens, you lose slowly.

Now we have that small five percent minority (rich) that wake up every morning and choose to pay themselves first. I can hear your thoughts, how can I pay myself first when I have a pile of overdue bills. Am I missing something? Well, yes, wealth is not just about money or possessions, wealth is just as much about the journey.

Try this. As you wake up in the morning and place both feet on the ground ask yourself, what will I learn today that will make me a better person? Now all you do is take action. Simple, maybe to simple as that figure of 5% of society are rich has not change for decades. The problem is the belief you have in yourself.

Slow and easy wins the race.
Time is the winner of all races.

Try this; have a child read you the story of “The Tortoise and the Hare” . Ask them to explain the story to you. Consider the explanation and thank them for helping you understand what needs to be done. Now we can move on with our journey.

Small steps grow into leaps and bounds.
